The Birth of Psychedelic Art
The psychedelic movement began in the mid-1960s and profoundly influenced not only music
but also lifestyle, clothing, language, art, literature, and philosophy.
This Revolutionary Art Form
This emerged as a direct response to the cultural upheaval of the era, driven by the
counterculture movement’s quest for consciousness expansion and spiritual awakening.
The term “psychedelic” itself derives from ancient Greek words meaning “to reveal the mind”.
This artistic movement was intrinsically linked to the prevalence of hallucinatory drugs,
particularly LSD, which inspired artists to translate their altered perceptions into visual form
The movement coincided with the rise of hippie culture and the explosion of rock and roll, with
San Francisco serving as the epicentre of this creative universe.
